Quick Summary

This policy is intended to describe how your personal information may be collected and used through interactions with Dram Fools online and in person.

Dram Fools takes the protection of your personal information very seriously.  Really, we actually do.  Our policy can be summed up as follows:

1. Please don’t give out any information that you don’t want us to have.  If you don’t provide it, it can’t get lost or mishandled in any way.
2. We will only use the information you share with us in the ways that you seem to intend. We consider this common sense and decency as well as a good privacy practice.  We don’t sell your info, we don’t pass it on knowingly, but we also recognize that the Internet is tremendously complicated, and we have very little control over how online systems work.  Therefore see point #1.
3. We will be as transparent as we possibly can be here.  We have nothing to hide regarding how we use your information, but we didn’t build these online systems ourselves.  So see points #2 and #1.
4. If you have concerns, reach out.  Seriously. We will do our best to answer any questions you have, and help resolve any issues you may be experiencing.

Online Services

Bandzoogle

Dram Fools use Bandzoogle to host our website, dramfools.com.  Therefore any information you enter while on the dramfools.com website is really going to Bandzoogle’s website hosting services.  Their privacy policy, cookie policy, terms of use and related documents can all be found here: https://bandzoogle.com/terms.

While we don’t have any control over that, we can get specific about what information we receive when you interact with our website, and what we do with that information.  So keep on reading.

Mailing List (Home page)

If you provide your email address through the Mailing List subscribe feature on dramfools.com, Dram Fools will be able to see:

• The email address you entered
• The date you entered it
• The approximate geographical location associated with your IP address
• Whether or not you completed the verification process by clicking the link in the email that got sent to the email address you entered

As a verified subscriber to the Dram Fools Mailing List, you will receive occasional emails from us. We are guessing that this is probably not a surprise.  You may unsubscribe at any time by using the link at the bottom of any email you receive from that list.  Or you may request to be removed from the list by any other reasonable method of communication to Dram Fools, and we will do our best to honor it.  Dram Fools will never share, sell, or use your email address provided through the subscribe feature for any purpose other than the Mailing List.

Contact Form (Contact page)

If you choose to send a message to Dram Fools via the website’s Contact page, Dram Fools will be able to see any information you type into the following fields:

• Name
• Email
• Message

This form is designed for general comments and inquiries.  We truly love hearing from our fans, followers, the media, venue owners, and anyone else with a desire to get hold of us.  But please do not enter any personal information beyond your name and email here, because it’s not designed for that.  Dram Fools will reach out to you with a reply (most likely via email) as appropriate.

Selling Tools (Store page)

If you provide your payment information through the Store feature on dramfools.com, Dram Fools will be able to see any information that you enter into the following fields in order to ship merchandise to you:

• Email address
• First Name
• Last Name
• Notes

We also see:

• Mailing address
• Phone number

Dram Fools will never share, sell, or use the contact/shipping information you provided to purchase something for any purpose other than to ship out what you ordered, with one teeny exception. Entering your email address here does not automatically subscribe you to our Mailing List as described above, but there is an option to subscribe to the Mailing List from the Checkout screen if you choose to do so.  Your choice does not affect your purchase in any way.

We do not see actual payment information, such as credit card details.  That would be bad.  However, we do see:

• The date you placed your order
• What you bought (otherwise how would we ship you the right stuff?)
• A unique transaction ID, which might be helpful if there are weird payment issues
• Your chosen payment method: Stripe for a credit card purchase, or PayPal
• The total dollar amount of your order.  Huge thanks for your support!

Once you follow the screen to your chosen payment option, you are no longer on the dramfools.com (Bandzoogle) website.  From here on, your information privacy and security are covered under the following policies, and are pretty much beyond any control of Dram Fools:

Online Music Services

Oh boy, this is a big one. We can’t possibly cover all the places where Dram Fools’ music is, and we have no control over how your information might be used at each of those places, but we can tell you what we know, and give you some general expectations.

Dram Fools uses CD Baby to distribute our music online.  That includes delivering it to streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify, online stores like iTunes and Amazon, online radio stations like Pandora and iHeartRadio, music discovery service Shazam, and so many others.  Here’s an extensive list of CD Baby’s current partners: https://cdbaby.com/music-distribution/digital-distribution-partners/.

In reality, you almost certainly don’t care about CD Baby’s privacy policy, because as a music consumer you’re not interacting directly with them.  Instead, you’ll be going to some of the places that our music is, like Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube Music, Pandora and so on.  Each of those companies will have their own policies on what information they collect, and how they use it, and all of that is necessarily out of scope here.  But in general, we can say this:

• Each time a Dram Fools song is streamed through one of these online services, we get paid a royalty (maybe $0.002 to $0.005 per play, but it’s complicated and opaque). Do some research on music royalties and you’ll see what we mean.
• If you buy an individual Dram Fools song, or the whole album through an online store (thank you so much!), we will get most of that purchase price, and you get to download the music.
• In either case, we have access to some aggregate statistics through most of these services, such as how many times a track has been streamed on a particular platform, or what countries the subscribers or purchasers are connecting from, but nothing that would single out an individual.
• We never see your subscription information on these music sites, or your payment information, or anything else about you as an individual.

In-Person Services

The real world is far simpler than the virtual one.  If you go to one of our shows in person, there are only a few ways you might share your information with us.

Ticket Purchases

If you attend a ticketed event, you will likely have an option to purchase tickets online ahead of the show.  We have used TicketWeb in the past, but because it was managed by the venue and not us, we did not receive any information at all.  But for what it is worth, their privacy policy is here: https://info.ticketweb.com/privacy-policy/#choice.  Dram Fools may use a different vendor for future shows, so please don’t take this as a promise of exactly who we may deal with for ticket sales.

Venues

Depending on where we play, there may be ways in which the venue gets some information about you, such as through ticket purchases that they manage, food and drink purchases and so on. All we can do here is advise you to contact venue management if you need more information about that.  We will try to field any inquiries we receive as appropriate, but make no promises.

Merchandise Sales

Dram Fools happily accepts cash.  We also use Square to process credit card payments.  Square works through the combination of a credit card reader and an app on a phone.  We own and control both the phone and the card reader.  As always, we want to collect only what is necessary to support your transaction.  Through the Square account we can see:

• A unique receipt reference number
• The source of the order (i.e., in person)
• The items purchased
• The transaction amount
• The date and time of the purchase
• The last four numbers of the credit card used, and the type of card (VISA, MasterCard, etc.)

Because we don’t need to deliver anything, we do not collect name, address, contact information or anything else that could identify you.  Dram Fools will never share, sell, or use the collected information for any purpose other than to support the payment transactions, and to know what we sold and when.  That way, we can make informed decisions about what merchandise to offer.

Audio, Video and Photography

We are entertainers. At least we try to be.  For that reason, we both expect and encourage people at our show to take photos, informal audio recordings and video.  Enjoy, and share!  But please be conscious of who else you capture in your recording endeavors, and limit, say, sharing the likenesses of people on social media without their permission.  You have our permission to post us online because that’s part of performing.

In turn, we will take reasonable steps to minimize any unwanted photos, audio or videos of you, and we will do our best to not share that kind of content without appropriate permission. But we can’t get formal release forms from everyone, and mistakes can happen.  If you believe an audio or video recording or a photograph of you has been taken and do not approve, or if you come across something posted online from one of our shows that you would like to have taken down, let us know and we’ll try to accommodate you.  Please don’t expect miracles, but we’ll do what we can.
